Our commitment to equity, equality and social justice statement

At Rare, we are unwavering in our commitment to equity, equality, and social justice. We recognise the profound impact that systemic inequalities can have on individuals and communities, and we strive to be a force for positive change. Our mission extends beyond the realm of business; we believe in fostering an inclusive environment where every person, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to thrive.
We acknowledge that diversity in thought, experience, and perspective is essential to driving innovation and achieving sustainable success. We are an ethically diverse, age diverse, and gender-balanced team, and it is with authenticity, sincerity, and personal passion that we take intentional steps to ensure that we are active not just within our business, but in our wider responsibility to push meaningful change within our society and beyond.

We understand that social justice is a continuous journey that requires active engagement and accountability. We embody a culture of respect, understanding, and allyship, and we pledge to continue engaging in meaningful dialogues, challenging biases, and listening to the voices of those who have been historically marginalised, and at risk of continued marginalisation.
We actively seek to dismantle barriers that prevent underrepresented groups from accessing opportunities within the industry we serve, and our Foundation offers support for underrepresented groups within the industry, such as subsidised professional mentoring services. Our Foundation also offers subsidised rates for people with disabilities or health issues who are in financial hardship and need support with home adaptations or redesign, as well as domestic abuse survivors. We commit to partnering with community organisations and advocacy groups that share our vision for a fairer society, and who will have access to people in need of our Foundation’s services. By collaborating on initiatives that promote social equity, we aim to amplify the impact of our collective efforts and contribute to lasting change in the communities we serve.
In essence, our commitment to equity, equality, and social justice is not merely a statement of values; it is a call to action. Each of us are passionate that everyone - regardless of what they look like, believe in, how their body serves them, who they love, or how they identify - should be respected, safe, and have equal access to opportunities, standards of service, and bright futures. We pledge to remain transparent in our efforts, evaluate our progress regularly, and adapt our strategies to ensure that we are making a tangible difference. At Rare, we truly believe that together, we can build a more equitable and just future for all.

Introducing the Halo Code

We are excited to announce that Rare Property & Design has adopted The Halo Code, the UK's first Black hair code. No Black employee should have to change their natural or protective hairstyle in order to thrive at work. We hope that the Halo Code will move us one step closer to a world free from discrimination, where all Black members of our community have their identities fully recognised and celebrated.
